Description

A subcircular ditched enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 540 metres NE of Thatcham Ponds Farm and centred at SP 66272 40334, a subcircular ditch up to 4 metres wide with gaps on the west side encloses an internal area about 63 metres SW-NE and 47 metres SE-NW in diameter. The enclosure is centred some 67 metres S of a smaller circular ditched enclosure. The features were visible as earthworks on historic aerial photographs taken in 1944, but are visible as cropmarks by 1973 (1-4).
