Description

A ring ditch of probable Bronze Age date, but possibly of later origins, is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field adjacent Dadford Road about 805 metres ENE of Thatcham Ponds Farm and centred at SP 66565 40325, a slightly subcircular ditch about 2.2 metres wide encloses an internal area about 15 metres W-E and 17 metres N-S in diameter. The cropmark of a probable Iron Age or Roman square ditched enclosure lies centred some 53 metres to the SW of this ring ditch. The feature is not visible on aerial photographs taken in 2020, which also suggest that the field in which the ring ditch lies is now being used as a car park for adjacent Silverstone racing circuit (1-2).
