Description
A linear bank of probable post-medieval or early 20th century date and of uncertain function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field between Boycott Manor Lodge and Kiln Spinney and centred at SP 66474 36961, a linear earthwork bank about 5.5 metres wide extends 425 metres NNW-SSE from the spinney to the lodge, cutting across blocks of medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. A narrow ditch runs down most of the way either side. Some 65 metres from the SSE end, a linear bank 4 metres wide extends WSW at right angles across the field for 93 metres. As the bank leads to/from Kiln Spinney, it may be associated with the post-medieval brick-making activity taking place at that time (1-3).
