Description

A post-medieval fragmented curving bank is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field adjacent Temple of Venus and centred at SP 67371 36561, an earthwork bank between 3.5 and 9 metres wide is about 326 metres long, aligned NW-SSE, overlying a bank of medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. A gap of 150 metres from the SSE end, the curving earthwork up to 10 metres wide continues a further 463 metres NW-ESE across three blocks of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, terminating at the boundary of the parkland about 250 metres SW of Corinthian Arch. The function of this earthwork is uncertain and is not recorded on any OS maps, but suggests a road (1)
