Description

A large post-medieval gravel pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 460 metres N of Manor Farm Buildings and centred at SP 67547 35127 the irregularly shaped pit is about 76 x 60 metres at its widest and covers about 2,791 square metres in area cutting through a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. Not shown on the 1881 1st Edition OS map or subsequent editions, it is adjacent to a 19th gravel pit that is (Bucks HER MBC24369 / 0910400000), suggesting an earlier origin (1-3).
