Description
A linear section of post-medieval road is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located between Corinthian Arch and Park Farm and centred at SP 67599 36203, a linear earthwork bank between 3.5 metres and 8 metres wide, with fragmentary boundary ditches on both sides, extends WSW about 934 metres from SP 68049 36314 to SP 67139 36134. This road appears as extant on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyor’s Drawing, though is not depicted through the parkland by the 1881 OS 1st Edition map as the road has been diverted by creating a new stretch of road that extends from Paper Mill Spinney, passing Park Farm to Chackmore, cutting out the dogleg to Corinthian Arch (1-3).
