Description

A post-medieval area of extraction associated with tilemaking is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within a field adjacent Gashouse Plantation and Old Tilehouse and centred at SP 68979 39201, a large irregularly shaped area of extraction about 6,583 square metres in area cuts through a block of medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. To the east of the extraction pit are a complex of parallel linear ditches, pits and banks that may be associated with the extraction activity. The former Tile House (MBC24353/ 0908800000/ NRHE 869609) is located about 230 metres to the NW (1).
