Monument record MBC44865 - post-medieval linear avenue or ride earthwork, south of Stowe Woods.

A section of post-medieval linear avenue or ride is visible on historic aerial photographs as levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately south of Stowe Woods and centred at SP 67879 39373, an earthwork bank about 16.5 metres wide extends about 312 metres N-S, flanked in parts on either side by sections of ditch up to 2.5 metres wide. These features match the linear avenue or ride shown on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyor’s Drawing as part of Stowe landscape park cutting through a large woodland at that time, though both the ride and that part of the woodland had been cleared by the 1881 1st Edition OS map. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, the features are not visible (1-5).
