Description
Two medieval or post-medieval parallel sinuous ditches bounding the perimeter of former woodland is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in field south of Woodlands Farm and centred at SP 67041 39237, the sinuous ditches extend N-S for about 507 metres and match the former boundary of woodland that formed part of Stowe Woods on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyor’s Drawing, but which had been cleared by the 1881 1st Edition OS map. The features are not visible on aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data (1-5).
