Monument record MBC44861 - Curvilinear bank of uncertain date and function, south of Stowe Woods.

A curvilinear bank of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs as a cropmark and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field south of Stowe Woods and centred at SP 67489 39265, the feature was formerly located within woodland recorded on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyor’s Drawing, but which had been cleared by the 1881 1st Edition OS map. The curving bank is about 3.5 metres wide and extends 300 metres NNW-SSE from SP 67419 39394 to SP 67548 39124. Not visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947, it is clearly visible as a pale cropmark by 1967. There is no evidence of the feature on aerial photographs taken in 2019 or on recent remote sensing data (1-6).
