Description

Probable medieval trackways or drainage ditches are visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Stowe Wood and centred at SP 67497 39751, a series of linear and curvilinear interconnecting and bisecting ditches or trackways extend through the whole wood, 650 metres W-E and 410 metres N-S. Two of the ditches are visible as much reduced earthworks crossing one of the two main N-S aligned post-medieval ornamental rides of Stowe Park, whilst another smaller ride appears to overlie the trackway/drains, which abuts it on either side. Also, two trackway/drain sections appear to terminate at either side of one of the ornamental lakes (1).
