Description
Probable post-medieval extraction pit and trackways visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 275 metres S of Parkfields and centred at SP 66396 39390, a possible irregularly shaped 13 x 7 metres extractive pit is located on the west boundary of the field. Curving E from the extractive pit across the field for 134 metres is a probable 2 metres wide trackway, with another 50 metres long 2 metres wide trackway extending SE. Some 45 metres SE of the extractive pit is a circular pit about 6 metres in diameter and of uncertain function, with an earthwork spoil mound on its south side that suggests it is probably early 20th century in origin, as it is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947 (1-3).
