Monument record MBC44857 - Possible medieval and/or post-medieval moat, Parkfields.

A possible medieval and/or post-medieval moat is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately adjacent Parkfields and centred at SP 66270 39712, a subrectangular moat ditch is between 7 and 10 metres wide, with a 10 metres gap on the east facing side. It encloses a subrectangular internal area about 44 x 27 metres at its widest points, within which is a curving earthwork bank on the interior edge of the mot ditch’s west facing side. A curving ditch extends WSW for 40 metres from the moat’s west facing side. About 50 metres to the SW is an irregularly shaped ditch between 7 and 15 metres wide and up to 34 metres long, that may have been a pond or fishpond. On aerial photographs taken in 2019, the north side of the moat ditch is now covered with tree canopy, as is the pond (1-5).
