- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A probable post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field corner adjacent Lenborough Farm and centred at SP 68035 30382, an irregularly shaped extractive pit measures up to 117 metres wide SW-NE and up to 73 metres NW-SE and covers an area of about 5,247 square metres. The site is shown on the 1813 Ordnance Surveyor Drawing as being a rectangular enclosure within which is a building and through the SW corner of which a trackway runs. All of these features appear to have been demolished by 1881 as they are not recorded on the 1st Edition OS map (1-5).
