Description

A subrectangular enclosure, ring ditch, linear features and maculae of Iron Age date are visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 400m south of Hall Farm, Beachampton, and centred at SP 76849 36508. The cropmarks show most of a subrectangular enclosure, approximately 54x42m, with a ring ditch, approximately 17m across partially visible at the centre. To the west is a linear feature with an irregular shaped macula. On a transcription of a 1771 plan of the estate of the estate of Right Honourable Earl of Shrewsbury at Beachampton shows this field as Corn Field and ridge and furrow is visible as cropmarks on modern aerial photographs but the enclosure does not show. Sixteen Romano British coins have been recorded over the area. (1-3).

A small subrectangular enclosure is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in July 2010 in the course of the annual English Heritage reconnaissance programme. The cropmarks are quite faint. One corner is not visible at all, but it is impossible to state whether the enclosure was incomplete. Some faint marks may indicate internal features, but there are other, faint 'natural' cropmarks within the general area. A short distance to the north are equally faint cropmarks which may represent a small circular or sub-circular feature (4).
