Description

Earthworks drainage ditches, ridge and furrow and boundary banks of probable post medieval date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in Thornton Squabs Spinney and centred at SP 75609 36753. Straight ridge and furrow earthworks are aligned with the boundaries of the woodland, which visible on the 1813 map of Winslow, crossed by drainage ditches and enclosed by a boundary bank and ditch on the northern side, parallel with the River Ouse. Remains of a Romano-British corn drying kiln (MBC2485) and a wharf (MBC2488) have been recorded in the woodland. Quabs in a field name indicates boggy ground and the underlying geology is superficial deposits of Alluvium and River Terraces deposits. (1-3)
