Description

Parallel ditches of medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located north of Manor Farm, Great Horwood and centred at SP 77378 31672. 1842 map of Great Horwood, transcribed in Tompkins’ thesis shows this parcel as Crabtree Orchard, with no buildings or plot boundaries shown. None are shown on a reconstruction of the same area in the 15th century in the same document. These earthworks are clear on lidar visualisations and the modern land use is pasture. (1-3)
