Description

A sinuous trackway of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located at south of Barracks Farm, along the length a later trackway, and centred at SP 77866 33762. This trackway runs along the northern side of the former woodland Nichols Wood, and is partly shown on the 1724 map and is on the 1813 map. The underlying geology is of Stewartby Mudstone overlain by Till/Diamicton and Alluvium, which is likely to give poorly drained soil which may have led to trackways becoming braided in wet conditions.
