Description

A possible extractive pit and spoil heap of medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and levelled earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located 200m to the north of Whaddon Road, Nash, and centred at SP 78104 34704. Pit is circular and is 60x50m in size; it is subcircular and crossed by a (probable) inclosure field boundary. The mound, possibly a spoil heap associated with excavation, is on the north side of the former pit, modern tracks go round it and animal poaching of the ground surface is visible on modern aerial photographs. Some ridge and furrow earthworks are visible in the pit on lidar visualisations. (1-3)
