Description

A subrectangular enclosure of probable Iron Age date is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within College Wood, Great Horwood, and centred at SP 79072 33229. Ditches forming a subrectangular enclosure on high ground, measuring 150x83m (similar in size to Nobury Camp - MBC125) are visible on LiDAR visualisation. A T shaped ditch extends from the south west corner, which may be later but was mapped for completeness. This area has been woodland since at least the 14th century and is shown on a plan in a PhD thesis as Baggs Coppice, which was later part of College Wood; there is no sign of the subrectangular enclosure on the 1813 Winslow Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing or the Epoch 1:2500 Ordnance Survey map.
