Monument record MBC43975 - Ridge and furrow in the parish of Great Horwood

Field systems of medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks, levelled earthworks and cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located throughout the parish of Great Horwood, and centred at SP 77052 31362. Ridge and furrow field systems, with plough headlands, drainage ditches and boundary banks, are visible almost continuously across the parish of Great Horwood. The area of Little Horwood Airfield, a World War II airfield which lies mainly within Great Horwood, shows only partial remains mainly as cropmarks from the 1940s, although earthworks do remain in places. A large area of former common, shown as Nash Common/Singleborough Common on historic maps is also without any recorded earthworks/cropmarks as is College Wood, a woodland formed out of smaller woodland parcels in Whaddon Chase.
