Description

Evaluation trial trenching by John Moore Heritage Services in October 2010 to the rear of the White Horse Inn revealed 3 intercutting late medieval quarry pits in Trench 1, with burnt brick, stone, tile and pottery of late 15th-century date in the fills. The pits were sealed by a buried soil layer containing late 16th century pottery. Trench 2 revealed a post-medieval quarry pit containing burnt stone, brick, tile and late 17th century pottery and an undated, pre-19th century posthole. See report for detail (B1).
