Description
Documentary reference to the sale of the White Horse Inn in 1683, with further records in 1807, 1816, 1832 and 1872. Historic building appraisal by CgMs Consulting in October 2010 in advance of proposed building alterations recorded the survival of probably 17th century timber-framed rear walls and other historic features within the building. The front of the inn had been substantially rebuilt in the early or mid-19th century, and the existing outbuildings to the rear were also rebuilt, and further outbuildings (stables and cart shed) also built at this time. See report for detail (B1).
Evaluation trial trenching by John Moore Heritage Services in October 2010 revealed the footings of a 19th century stone building and a later brick lean-to, probably outbuildings shown on the 1880 first edition 25-inch OS map. See report for detail (B2).
