Monument record MBC43730 - Extractive pit and trackway at Redfield, Winslow

A possible extractive pit and trackway of probable medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located to the east of Redfield, Winslow, and centred at SP 76355 28657. The earthworks appear to be crossing trackways, a possible extractive pit and an area of uneven ground with no clear features. Redfield was constructed after the inclosure of Winslow parish and was on the site of Dudslow/Mobb’s Farm. These earthworks may be part of the boundaries/trackways associated with that or it may have been an area of extractive pits and spoil heaps for the clay for the construction of Redfield. There is also a brickworks nearby at Old Brickworks Farm (see MBC13282). There are no buildings on the 1813 map on this location but there may be field boundaries; ridge and furrow earthworks are visible in the area in the 1940s and on the most recent lidar visualisations.
