Description

A mid-19th century spoil heap created from a railway cutting construction is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located adjacent a deep cutting of the London North Western Railway line about 250 metres SE of Salden Crabtree Farm and centred at SP 81524 30849, the mound is triangular and has been covered in woodland since at least 1881. Recent remote sensing data shows a series of finger-like ridges diverge from a narrow ramp on the east side, suggesting the spoil was deposited from this side during the construction of the railway cutting. On aerial photographs taken in 2019, the feature remains under woodland (1-3).
