Description

A rectangular pond of uncertain date and function is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Thrift Wood, formerly part of Whaddon Chase and centred at SP 81834 32471, a rectangular ditch or pond is about 22 metres NW-SE and 11 metres SW-NE. On its NW facing end a curving 4 metres wide ditch extends NNW for about 87 metres. On the pond’s SE facing end, a 1 metre wide linear ditch extends a further 31 metres SE. The pond does not feature on any historic editions of OS mapping (1).
