Monument record MBC43718 - Medieval or post-medieval pre-inclosure field boundary, Coddimoor Lane

A curving medieval or post-medieval pre-inclosure field boundary ditch is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in fields west of Coddimoor Lane and centred at SP 80608 33216, a curving earthwork ditch about 4.5 metres wide extends for about 322 metres from SP 80318 33118 to SP 80034 32740. The feature matches a boundary ditch that divided cultivated lands and Whaddon Chase depicted on an Ordnance Surveyor Drawing dated 1813. Visible as earthworks in 1946, aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data suggest that the southern half of the feature has since been plough levelled (1-4).
