Description

A subrectangular ditched enclosure of uncertain date and function is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Coddimoorhill Wood and centred at SP 81158 32912, a subrectangular ditch is about 5 metres wide and broadens to 9 metres in places, that encloses an internal area about 75 metres W-E and 51.5 metres N-S at its widest points. The enclosure is located within the former Whaddon Chase, a medieval hunting forest that remained a hunting chase until 1840, so may date anywhere from the Iron Age or Romano-British period to the post-medieval (1).
