Description
A curvilinear ditched enclosure of uncertain date and function is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Coddimoorhill Wood and centred at SP 80886 32788, a linear ditch about 3.5 metres wide broadens to 5 metres in places and extends in an arc for 77.5 metres. No evidence of the west side of this feature is visible, as a modern field boundary has truncated the feature NE-SW. The enclosure is located within the former Whaddon Chase, a medieval hunting forest that remained a hunting chase until 1840, so may date anywhere from the Iron Age or Romano-British period to the post-medieval (1).
