Description

Three probable early 20th century extractive pits are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 600 metres ENE of Old Leighton Farm and centred at SP 84400 27764, the adjacent irregularly-shaped extractive pits are about 381, 1,449 and 570 square metres in area and aerial photographs taken in 1944 suggest they were plough-levelled by that time but do not appear on OS historic map editions and may have been dug and fill-in in the intervening period.
