- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks about 560 metres NNE of Spring Grove Farm and centred at SP 81073 29772, an irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 58 metres in diameter at its widest, covering an area about 1,694 square metres. On aerial photographs taken in 2019, the feature is visible as a dark soilmark; and on recent remote sensing data it is barely visible as a slight depression (1-2).
