Description

A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 565 metres S of Salden House Farm and centred at SP 82485 29187, the irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 60 metres in diameter at its widest and cover 2,425 square metres in area. The extraction sit is located within a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation and does not appear on OS historic map editions. Visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1944, recent remote sensing show that subsequently it has been plough-levelled (1-2).
