- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval to Modern - 1540 AD to 1999 AD)
Description
A post-medieval or early 20th century extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 580 metres NW of Town Farm in Hoggeston village and centred at SP 80109 25336, an irregularly shaped extraction site is about 2,688 square metres in area. Not recorded on the 1881 1st Edition OS map, it therefore probably post-dates that time. Recent remote sensing data shows that the feature remains extant but is now much shallower, having been somewhat plough-levelled (1-2).
