Description

A mound and pit of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 863 metres SW of Blackland Farm and centred at SP 81758 25515, a subcircular mound about 22 metres at its widest in diameter has a irregularly shaped pit 9 metres wide at its centre. These features are constructed on a block of medieval and/or post medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, so likely post-date it. The function is unclear and may be purely agricultural. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, the features are not visible and appear to have been plough-levelled (1-3).
