Description

A probable Second World War bomb crater is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field north of Dean Road about 265 metres west of Dean Farm and centred at SP 83054 26556, aerial photographs taken in 1944 show a circular hole about 9.5 metres in diameter, around the rim of which is an earthwork bank, presumably upcast from the explosion. The earthworks remain extant in 1961 and 1973 and appear to being used as a cattle pond. On aerial photographs taken in 2019, the features have been filled in, but is visible as a low mound on recent remote sensing data (1-5).
