Monument record MBC43665 - Post-medieval road sections, Salden

A section of post-medieval road is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located between Manor Farm at Church End and Salden and centred at SP 83206 28774, aerial photographs taken in 1944 and 1946 show a sinuous earthwork bank up to 7 metres wide and 880 metres long cutting across blocks of extant medieval or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, suggesting the road post-dates it. The sinuous road is depicted on the 1813 Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing that leads from Drayton Parslow to Salden via Salden Mill and appears as a trackway on the 1881 1st Edition OS map. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, the features have been plough-levelled and are not visible (1-6).
