Description

A line of four/five ring ditches of possible Bronze age date is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 60m west of Cowpen Wood, Thornton and centred at SP 76673 34901. These ring ditches are in a line running approximately north east to south west and range in size from 18-21m in diameter. There is also a single small macula, 4m across, within the line. Aerial photographs from the 1940s show ridge and furrow earthworks covering the area but modern land use has been arable since 2003 or earlier; there is no sign of earthworks on any lidar visualsations.
