Description

A road and trackway of probable medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located between Swan’s Way and the A413, Bennet’s Hill, Swanborough, and centred at SP 78646 25626. The road is visible as a pair of parallel earthworks with a ditch in between, the trackway joins at a right angle, 120m to the north of Holcombe Cottages. There are no hedged field boundaries along this road, like there are along the later road to the south, and the ridge and furrow earthworks come up to the edge of these earthworks. There does not seem to be a destination for this road unless there was a farm or similar that has since been demolished. (1-4)
