- EXTRACTIVE PIT (19th Century to Modern - 1800 AD to 1999 AD)
Description
An extractive pit of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and later levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located 700m south west of Swanbourne House and centred at SP 79405 26570. The pit is irregular in shape, 41x43m, and is on superficial geology deposits of Diamicton; it is in the middle of the field on the join of two areas of ridge and furrow earthworks so is probably a marl pit. Late 20th century agricultural land use has removed all earthworks beyond a rounded depression visible on lidar visualisation. (1-2)
