Monument record MBC43586 - Medieval and/or post-medieval ditches, Dean Tithe Farm

Medieval and/or post-medieval ditches are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located across two fields north of Dean Tithe Farm and centred at SP 83596 26428, a system of linear interconnected ditches between 1 and 3 metres wide extends across an area about 235 metres N-S and 250 metres W-E. The ditch system appears to link to an adjacent medieval ditched enclosure or field (Bucks HER MBC43584). Some of the ditches are sinuous or curvilinear and appear to be medieval pre-inclosure field boundaries as they link to fragments of surviving field boundaries on OS mapping, whilst other ditches may be trackways. Aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data indicate that some ditches remain extant, though have been significantly denuded by agricultural cultivation, whilst others have been plough-levelled (1-4).
