Description

Late 19th century factory. 3 storeys, 12 bays. Dark red brick with red brick dressings and slate roof. Metal framed casement windows with glazing bars in reveals under wide arches. A small circular window in the loft space in each gable. The first and second floor windows are grouped in decorative recessed brickwork panels with dentil corniced tops. Doorways in bays 5 and 11. Wide wagon entry to right hand bay with wide half-glazed loading door in each of the floors above. [Photos in 2010 and 2013]. (B1).
Boot and shoe factory built by John Hayes in 1890. His sons continued the business until the 1930s when a slump in demand for their speciality heavy boot necessitated its closure (B2).
