Description
A semi-circular platform of uncertain date and function is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located against a field boundary within Hop Gardens woodland and centred at SP 88944 25716, the platform measures about 40 metres NW-SW along the field boundary and 21 metres SW-NE to the apex of the arc. The 1887 1st Edition OS map shows this feature to have been within a field at that time and remote sensing data suggest it abuts a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks (also now within woodland), so this may have been a stock enclosure or pound prior to the woodland’s formation (1-2).
