Description
Probable medieval linear connected boundary ditches and platforms are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthwork and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field between Red Bridge and Stapleford Mill and centred at SP 89562 28476, two parallel ditches about 100 and 77 metres in length and up to 6 metres wide are aligned WSW-ENE. They are connected by two shorter parallel perpendicular ditches, forming two enclosed ditched rectilinear platforms, one larger at about 45 x 47 metres (bounded by the road on the WSW facing side) and a smaller platform about 45 x 19 metres. The function of these features is uncertain but abuts a small block of medieval ridge furrow cultivation to the south on the same alignment, suggesting contemporaneity (1-3).
