Description
A possible post medieval water meadow or early 20th century drainage ditch system is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on a meadow adjacent the River Ouzel immediately south of (former) Paper Mill Farm (HER Nos 0233500000 & 0233500100) and centred at SP 89122 29090, a connected system of linear parallel and perpendicular ditches extends over an area about 366 metres N-S and 190 metres W-E. These ditches overlie plough levelled medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. Visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946, the system has been plough levelled in the post war period and is barely visible on recent remote sensing data (1-2).
