Description

A LARGE QUANTITY OF SHERDS AND VITRIFIED CLAY RECOVERED FROM SITE BY BAS MEMBERS. POTTERY FROM THE SITE EXAMINED BY MR PHILIP CORDER & MR M R HULL INCLUDED A FEW SHERDS FROM BEAD-RIM POTS OF AN EARLY DATE (B1).

Roman potsherds were found in the walled kitchen garden of Sheepcote House (SU 927873) by a boy of High Wycombe Grammar School, and taken to one of the masters, Mr A C Hills.
The sherds, some of which appeared to come from early bead-rim pots, were examined by P Corder and M R Hull and identified as Roman, probably indicative of industrial activity on the site; it may be that of an early pottery kiln similar to three others in the area viz. Wapsey's Wood (Hedgerley), Duke's Wood (Fulmer) and Bulstrode Park (Gerrard's Cross) the last being only conjectural. (Nothing visible on available Aps RAF 1947) (B1).

No further information (B5).
