Description

Conservation Area designated in 1989. A common theme across the heath and one that unifies development somewhat is the prevalence of what were originally estate workers cottages for Turville Park, although some have been altered greatly in line with modem residential requirements. Although none of these are listed they are of great interest due to the repeating patterns of decoration that tie them to one landowner. All have evidence of flint panels with decorative and complex brick detailing, arched window heads and old tile roofs. Brick and flint is common on the estate cottages and there is great use of decorative dressings forming panels around door and window openings and as detailing on the flint facades. These cottages also have old tile roofs and this lends a mellow appearance to them. Window openings have rubbed brick arches and woodwork is generally white painted. Because these brick and flint cottages are dotted around the conservation area they do provide a sense of continuity that would otherwise be lacking in such a spread out and diverse settlement. See Conservation Area Character Survey for detail (B1).
