Description

19th century detached brick building with outbuildings and rear garden which includes a public footpath. The property forms part of a cluster of 19th century development in this part of the village and the scale, massing and outline of these buildings together with the largely blank rear elevations of the house and attached outbuildings are characteristic of the area. The buildings present an historically interesting and sympathetic context to the public realm of the footpath which leads to amenity space and ponds, formerly the clay pits for the 1850 brickworks from which many of the village buildings were constructed. Although a second storey has been added at a more recent date to the eastern most outbuilding, evidenced by a change in brick bond from Flemish to stretcher bond, the character of the outbuildings remain. The outbuildings are attached to the main dwelling and together their form and scale, brickwork and detailing, remain largely unaltered representing a significant historical phase of development within the village characteristic of the area and are therefore considered a Non-Designated Heritage Asset, meeting the criteria of age, aesthetic quality, group value and social and communal value. The core significance of the property lies in evidence of the agricultural development of the village surviving in the utilitarian outbuildings and the relatively blank rear elevation of the house and outbuildings together which are indicative of their historic uses (B1).
