Evaluation trial trenching carried out by L-P Archaeology from July to September 2018 in advance of construction of HS2 railway and bypass, identified a number of features in Trench 23. Four roughly parallel NE-SW shallow ditches and part of a shallow pit, all with brownish grey clay fills. Only one of the features contained any dating evidence, the fill of the largest ditch, approx 1m wide and approx 0.4m deep, contained Roman pottery dating to the 2nd century. See report for detail (B1).
