Description

This site was only ever a gasholder station, the first gasholder built in 1926 and the second built in 1967. Two gasholders (decommissioned) were still present in 2018 (one Spiral guided gasholder and one frame guided gasholder) (B1).
Historic building recording carried out in September 2018 by MOLA Northampton prior to demolition, found that Gasholder 1 (the smaller holder) was built in 1926 by R Dempster & Sons and was a frame-guided gasholder with above-ground tank. Gasholder 2 (the larger holder) was a spiral-guided gasholder with above-ground tank and was built in 1967 by S Cutler & Sons following the conversion to Natural Gas, significantly increasing the site’s storage capacity. See report for detail (B2).
