Description
Thomas and James Nash started brewing in about 1842 at Gomm's former brewery in the High Street and seem to have moved the brewery to White Hill in 1871. In 1882 alterations to the maltings were made by William Bradford, an established brewery architect, with further alterations to the brewery in 1898-9 and 1906 (B1).
The brewery owned 11 Chesham pubs in 1872. The business was incorporated as The Chesham Brewery Ltd in 1895 and subsequently took over a number of other smaller breweries in Chesham, Berkhamsted, Boxmoor, Watford and Chalfont St Giles. Chesham Brewery merged with Hopcraft & Norris Ltd in 1946, becoming Chesham & Brackley Breweries Ltd. The brewery closed in 1957, with equipment and production moving to Brackley and the brewery buildings were demolished in 1961 (B2).
